The teaching of surgery requires detailed visual input. Multimedia is an ideal medium to convey this information using video, photography, animation and 3D images. This project funded by Ethicon Ltd. aims to teach minor surgery techniques to Family Practitioners and Medical Students. The CD ROM includes over 400 photographs and illustrations and 32 video clips.

 

   
 
     
     
The Skin Lesions chapter includes detailed explanations of of the important features on most common skin lesions illustrated with an extensive collection of clinical photographs. The Clinical section on skin lesions is intimately linked to the "Pathology" section allowing the user to jump between this sections to review the Pathological aspects of a particular skin lesion.
The Pathology chapter offers an authoritative description of the histopathological diagnosis of skin lesions and their natural history. It also includes an extensive collection of photomicrographs with detailed explanation of the microscopic anatomy of each lesion.
The Setting up Practice chapter concentrates on all the aspects of setting up minor surgery in the family practice environment in the UK. Includes detailed guidelines for equipment, legal requirements and infection control.
The Anaesthetics chapter describes the Mode of action, techniques and precautions for the use of local anaesthetics with anatomical drawings and photographs.
The Surgery chapter takes the user through every stage of Minor Surgery, from the pre operative assessment through the description of the instruments and sutures including a brief history of the evolution of suture materials. All the techniques are described in detail and illustrated with photographs schematic illustrations and a video of the complete surgical procedure.
